In general, Italian food is one of the easiest to prepare. Boil pasta, drain, add a sauce. However, it seems that almost all Italian restaurants are very average in quality. La Cantina is no exception here. The large calamari was okay, if not a little too tough in spots; however, $14 is a steep price for the three pieces I received. Only a small amount of bread was brought to the table and it came with whipped butter (how retro?). My seafood linguini was very 'average'. It came as a massive mound of noodles (many had congealed and stuck together in a strachy mass) with a fairly good portion of mussles, scallops and shrimp. The shrimp were large and full of flavour, the scallops were a bit overcooked, but still edible. The mussles were another story. They seemed tired and elderly - I had one but was fearful to finish the other 5 or 6. The biggest disappointment was the swordfish. The 'chef' reccommended it cooked 'medium' which my wife selected. It came thin, tiny, tough and dried out. We should have sent it back. It was extra well done. Also, another in our party had the same dish. Their fish was equally overdone but was thicker and about twice as large. Such variations in portion size is a little odd and made me wonder if they were running low on supply. Our server was competant and friendly.

A delectable attempt to harmonise big town image with small town mentality, however gallons away from reality. Portions, while appropriate, lack the much advertised traditionalism in flavour. Staff, while friendly, lack maturity of presentation especially during peak hours.

I come here often for lunch and I bring my clients.
There seems to have been a decline in the taste of the food over the past few months.
In the past I have had the pizzas and enjoyed them. In Sept I tried the smoked salmon salad and enjoyed it however of late things have not seemed to be as tasty as I expected.
The service is freindly but it seems too rigid.

We were all sadly disappointed, this resteraunt has been our favorite for many years & it has gone completely downhill. I mentioned to the waitress were were disappointed she just sluffed it off.If she had made some kind of effort to make us happy,esp. when so many of us were not, wemight have gone back, but I'm afraid they've lost 10 good customers
