Over the decades, Tom Holub has seen Edmonton transform: two oil booms, major recessions, a vibrant downtown turned empty, and now it's back on the upswing again. Through it all, TomKat Shoes has been there. Originally opened in 1946 by Jakob Wener, the store was a mainstay along Jasper Avenue for 68 years. Tom’s father bought it from Jakob in 1967, keeping the name in place. Tom finally changed that name in 2014, and this beloved store now has a bigger location a few doors down from the original site.

Like the city itself, TomKat Shoes has undergone some changes over the years. “Originally we were a children’s shoe store,” says Tom. “You have to adapt. We dropped children’s shoes in 1980. For a while we only sold comfort shoes and well-fitting shoes. We still are a comfort shoe store, but with technology today you can be much dressier and still have comfortable shoes.”

    I received very p...

I received very poor customer service from the owner. Its too bad, because I have spent a fair amount of money at Katwalk, your sister store. Failure to call me back resulted in my making one purchase online instead of making another trip back to your store. And the rude personal treatment I received ensures I won't go back to either store.
